Date-stamped : 17 May94 - 14:24 INDIA XI vs. AUSTRALIA XI, One-day #3 played at Melbourne Grammer on 3 May 94 First of all the Indian Innings, I can really understand why there are Indians out there frustrated watching Shastri in ODers if that innings was an example, in a 40 over game teams really have to get on with it from the start, maybe not smashing like Tendulkar was, but getting on with it atleast. He played out 3 maidens early on and after 8 overs India were 0/19 before Tendul- kar took 18 of one Daniel Marsh over. I must say I liked the look of this Muzumdar, while making only 10 he looked really busy at the crease and got a couple of 2's and 3's while only usually being a 1 or 2 there. I am a big fan of these type of players, hope he goes far. Vishwanath is ce- tainly past it if his innings was any example, his missed nu- mourous balls outside off stump which he tried to cut, but then he'd have to be in his 40's now so I suppose after giving India such good service for so long, who can really complain. More showed some fight towards the end hitting the Australian bowling around a bit while the others looked out of place with the bat (Ankola inparticularly looked like he was a real sloging tailender, all over the joint he was in his brief innings) The Australian Bowling was reasonable given what was available, this Nicholson guy from Sydney is fairly quick, but he was the only true bowler in the side, Maxwell is a good allrounder, all the others really are batsmen who bowl a bit, particularly Law and Ponting. The Australian Innings got off to a very shaky start and they were 3/31 after 10 overs, but then Maxwell and Harvey settled down for a while and got us back on track before Symons came out and he along with Harvey, towards the end inparticuarl were just smashing Raju and Ghavri around, Raju twice got planted on the 3rd storey of a nearby building by Harvey, it made for entertain- ing cricket! I liked the look of Maher, his innings was only mainly singles but he pushed them into gaps and ran hard between wickets. Of the Indian Bowlers, Bhupinder impressed me greatly, he bowled very tightly and was rewarded with 3 wickets. Ankola on the other hand consistently bowled short and Harvey scored numerous runs off Ankola with pull shots. Kumble while bowling accurately for most of the time, seemed to have been worked out by Harvey who continually pushed him behind point for 1's and 2's after step- ping out towards the leg side. One thing is for sure, he is a far different type of leg spinner than Shane Warne is. But from a purely entertainment point of view Symons innings was something to behold, 51 off 31, his scoring went 4114141414412116641, It wasn't really slogging until the last few runs were needed by Australia, but gee he hit the ball well.
