The game started with an opening partnership of 96 from Smith and Stephenson, a solid innings drom Alan Wells and an accurate first spell of 7 overs for 13 runs from Salisbury. Stephenson also bowled Maynard, who looked capa- ble of winning the game for Glamorgan after Speight`s two smart catches had accounted for Morris and James.
