Date-stamped : 14 May94 - 18:30 Sharjah Tourney: Game 2 Australia vs Sri Lanka Played at Sharjah, 14th April, 1994 Sri Lanka's cricket side, missing five of their top players, were shot out for a meagre 154 by Australia in the one-day Australasia Cup international on Thursday. Sri Lanka failed to negotiate the nagging Australian attack, han- dicapped by the absence of their regular captain Arjuna Ranatunga and four other players after a revolt over a controversial team fitness test demanded by selectors. Only vice-captain Hashan Tillakaratne offered protracted resis- tance in a 95-ball stay at the crease, his 64 including four fours to lend some respectability to the score. The Sri Lankans started well before team captain Roshan Mahanama fell leg before wicket to Paul Reiffel with the score on 30. Asanka Gurusinha and and Sanath Jayasuriya were then quickly run out, plunging the side into a crisis from which it did not recov- er. Australia's bowlers all bowled a tidy length and did not allow the subdued Sri Lankans much to hit, with Shane Warne taking three for 29. Steve Waugh and Reiffel chipped in with two wick- ets apiece.
