Carlton 2-137 & 2-35 v Fitzroy Doncaster 2-130
Carlton put in a shocker against Fiztroy Doncaster and are in
trouble of an outright defeat. FD pacemen Steve Cottrell (4-13)&
David Hampton (3-44) flattened the Carlton batting line up as
Cain Logans' 65 was the only score past 13. Gary Watts (44) and
Darren Berry (54*) had no trouble rattling up the runs, and the
declaration came at 2 for 130. Carlton were in trouble in their
second innings as Cottel took two quick wickets.
Ringwood 207 v Melbourne 0-34
Melbourne's bowler performed well again with Richards Herman tak-
ing 4 for 54 and legspinner Paul Garlick 4-42 restricted Ringwood
to 207. Jamie Sutherland again bowled well without luck taking 1
for 17 from an astonsihing 20 overs. Melbourne got of to a bright
start inspite of state legspinner Craig Howard opening the bowl-
ing.
Essendon 3-259 v Collingwood
Essendon scored well against Collingwood with Matthew Drain's 104
and Peter Young 94 not out.
Richmond 309 v Frankston Peninsula
Richmond's Peter Davies thrashed the Frankston Peninsula attack
for 180, Assisted mainly by Andrew Cowper he helped Richmond to
309. St Kilda footballer Robert Harvey playing his first grade
match for a while took 5 for 63 for FP.
Northcote 290 v Dandenon Waverly
Northcotes Grant Gardiner made his second succesive century as
Northcote hit up 290. Again assistanve in run scoring mainly from
the lower order.
Footscray 270 v University.
Footscray's Niel Burns 103 and plenty of middle order help saw
them through to 270 against University.
Hawthorn 300 v St Kilda
Hawthorn found some form and knocked up 300 against St Kilda.
Ian Wheeler fromly of FD scored 106, with help from Vimpani (71)
and Mills (46) before the lower order fell aparrt. James
Handscomb's 6-120 are his best figures coming off 43 overs.
Geelong 8-269 v South Melbourne.
Geelong opener Adrian McCormack finally made some runs (52) and
with Kevin Neville they gave Geelong a good start before small
collapse and then young bat Daniel Fanning (65) help Neville to
consolidate saw them reach 8-269 at stumps. South
Melbourne's Damien Fleming took 4 for 82.
North Melbourne 9-385 v Prahran
North Melbourne's mighty batting line up continued on their
slaughtering way as they smashed 385 for 9 against Prahran. Since
an outright loss early in the season the batting has been on
fire. This time Earl Eddings smashed 157 off 172 ball, and with
help from Liam Pickering (55) and Connel who finished 82 not out,
Prahran have a difficult task to get any points. Legspinner
Milosz's form continues to impress with 6 for 107. Now if only
North Melbourne could get some bowlers.
