Melbourne
Northcote 7-351 drew with Richmond 8-306
Northcote vetern left hander Grant Gardiner with 181 helped
Northcote to an impressive 7 for 351 with some assistance from
most batsmen. No Richmond bowlers showed enough penetration, but
their batsmen were more succesful but unable to overhaul
Northcotes score whilst Nortchotes bowlers matched Richmonds who
made 8-306. Davies 84 and Notaris 68 not out. No points either
way.

University 139 & 3-83 d Hawthorn 104
Geoff Allardice's 50 and Wayne Phillips (not SA's not W.N.
either W.A.) 35 were the only major contribution to
University's 139. Former South Australia legspinner Carig
Francis took 5-37 and Fast bowler Andrew Chapman helped with
3 for 37. However it was enough for Uni as paceman Andrew
Robertson demolished Hawthorn with 5 for 29 as they fell for
104. Uni were 3-83 in their second innings.

Footscray 6-253 d Collingwood 239
Footscray's opener Paul Burns scored his maiden grade century
with 111 and scored the largess of Footscray's 6 for 253. Left
armer Dave Emerson was Collingwood main bowling success with 4
for 79. Collingwood failed to reach their target falling for 239.
No stands out either side in Collingwood's innings.

Essendon 207 & 1-27 lost to Fitzroy Doncaster 3-284
Essendon batted first against Fitzroy Doncaster with number 9
Simon Rea's 51 saving them from real trouble as they struggled to
207. Melbourne went well in Essendon for Fitzroy Doncaster with 4
for 56. IN reply it was high wattage for the combine with G Watts
92 and Leigh Watts 54 not out.

South Melbourne 225 & 4-70 d Melbourne 213
South Melbourne upset Melbourne. Another strong bowling effort
from Melbourne with Sutherland 3-52 and Herman 3-49 saw them
restrict South to 225 with opener Michael Hanson (51) and Sean
Brown at 3 (51) saw them to 3 for 140 before a major collapse and
40 from State paceman Damien Fleming saw them past 200. Fleming
was the main cause for misery for Melbourne with 6 for 56 as they
crashed to 213 obviously missing Ramshaw and Jones from the top
order.

Dandenong Waverly 211 lost to Prahran 7-230
Dandenong Waverly also struggled against the legspin of Steve
Milosz in a pattern similar to South opener Bartlett (48) and
number three David McLeod(78) had them in a strong position (3-
150) before a late collapse saw them 211 all out. Opening
bowler Foley struck early with Kratz for a duck but Grant
(77) and Weiner (63*) took Prahan to s safe victory with 7-230

Geelong 250 d Carlton 224
Geelong struggled to 250 missing captain Peter Cox. It was left
to the middle order lead by Jamie Bakker (46) again and the lower
order with 4-10 all making double figures they managed 250 early
on the second day. Quick quick Quick was not succesful but Peter
Smith was as he took 5 for 61 and legspinner Brad Stacey with
3-61 saw them to a good victory over Carlton who made 224.
Wigglesworth made 55 following his tight bowling (be it A. or I)

North Melbourne 6-309 drew with Ringwood 9-252
North Melbourne's impressive batting form after that outright
loss has continued with opener Clinton McCarthy striking an
impressive 127 and Liam Pickering addinf 50 and everybody getting
runs they declared early on Sunday at 6 for 309. Needless no
Ringwood bowlers impressed. However Ringwood were still batting
at the end of the day, only just but they were 9 for 252. Skipper
Brendan Ricci again the only major contributer with 105. No North
Melbourne bowler stood out.
