Fiztroy-Doncaster 2-118 d Caulfield 115
Geelong 182 v Ringwood 175
Melbourne 1-179 d Carlton 177

Last of the non grade sides Brighton and Caulfield eliminated,
Geelong squeeze through playing the semi-finals on January 23 as
Northcote v Fiztroy Doncaster
Geelong v Melbourne
My tip Melbourne v Fiztroy Doncaster for the final, a bit depends
on whether South Africa make the finals of the one dayers whether
the Victorian state players are away or not.

Melbourne
Essendon 170 lost to St Kilda 172
It was a one day game on Saturday and St Kilda snuck past Essen-
don with former state keeper Michael Dimattina scoring 54 for St
Kilda, and Cull 50 going with his 3-30 in Essendons innings where
the lower order blew good start from Matthew Drain (64) and Da-
vid Cullen (43).

North Melbourne 124 lost to Melbourne 3-235
It was back to batting disaster for my beloved North Melbourne as
only Steve Connell (32) and Rob Wedding (36) passed double fig-
ures as they crumbled for 124 with Simon Cook best of the bowlers
with 4 for 20 and other state players Herman (2-36) and Garlick
(2-21). Melbourne responded with the highest score of the day
making 235 with State batsman Brad Hodge scoring 100 Herman 89
not out and state batsman Ramshaw failing. Get the feeling they
have a rather good side and I'm making excuses, just remember
Dean Jones wasn't there either. Ayres was. Sorry damn North's
inconsistent batting. Incidently it was Hodges first district
century he does have a first class century though.

Northcote 5-235 d Hawthorn
Nortchote matched Melbournes total with 5-235 Sharp (81) Gar-
diner (49) and O'Sullivan (56) scoring well and the bowlers de-
fended that easily restricting Hawthorn to 192 Saker best with
4-22 and Vimpani of Hawthorn passing 50.

Richmond 5-203 d Footscray 148
Richmond also broke 200 as David Harris made 76 and Davies late
runs with 46 not out, Mervyn Hughes went wicketless, Dodemaide
unimpressive. In reply Footscray were rolled for 148 with
Bush's 48 the major score in an unimpressive effort that has
troubled there finals chances. Parker 2-18 best in a good Rich-
mond bowling effort.

Dandenong-Waverly 5-211 d Frankston Peninsula 149
The Peninsula put up a better effort against Dandenong Waverly
than previous efforts but still lost comfotably. New state bats-
man Ian Harvey made a bright 67and Shuan Richardson 56 as they
scored 211 for 5. The response better than the 57 off 33 overs in
an early game was only 149 with Harvey taking 2 for 28 and Micha-
el deMattia 4 for 28.

South Melbourne 163 d Collingwood 106
Collingwod lost home ground advantage when they journey to Bendi-
go with South Melbourne and lost the game.Batting first South
Managed just 163, with Michael Hansen 58 & Mark Butcher 47.
French best of the bowlers with 3-32, however Collingwood
surrendered for 106 with some time medium pacer Alan Chadwick 4-
27 and leggie Leigh Baker 3 for 19 doing the damage, Collingwood
drop out of the finals spots where all Collingwood sides belong!

Fiztroy-Doncaster 6-266 d Ringwood 143
Fitzroy Doncaster got the second highest score of the day making
266 (Can you see I'm covering) as they thrashed the Ringwood
bowling, even though Craig Howard bowled an extra over for 11
they found run making comfortable with Damien Hampton 75 and
Leigh Watts 61 plust Helmot (51) seeing them to a total that al-
lowed a comfortable win as Cottrel 3-40 and Melbourne 10-4-10-2
kept Ringwood to 143, in what I think was makeup Ringwood bowler
Muir bowled 11 overs taking 2 fo 33.

Geelong 8-96 lost to Prahran 4-103
Geelong had a less than impressive day, with the openers McCor-
mack and Neville struggling it then rained on them and they lost
13 overs and finished up with just 96. Destroyer Michael O'Keefe
with 5 for 19 he also topped the runs for the day making 44 as
Prahan made 4-103. Paceman Baker taking 2 for 6 from 7 overs.

University 159 lost to Carlton 5-166
Finally University were edged out by Carlton, impressive district
player Geoff Allardice scored another 50 and with Bolton's 41
looked to have University in a good position but the lower order
failed and they were bowled out for 159, or I should say run out,
four of them Wrigglesworth's T & I took 2 each and sneezeowski
took the other. Whilst quite comfortable with the chase Carlton
never looked like running away with it. Rohan Larkin and Ian
Wrigglesworth both scored 51 as they won by 7 runs.
