Pakistan in Australia Dec 1992/Jan 1993 - Summary

Pakistan in Australia
The Pakistani's had a short and abysmal tour. Being
world champions there was a high demand on them to play
one-day games, in short they suffered from too much cricket.
The batting was abysmal being bowled out for double figures
twice by the West Indies in the WSC competition. It was
unfortunate that they performed so poorly as there are a
good team probably not suited to the one-day so much as the
longer game as they showed when they trounced Queensland.
They too began their tour in Perth meeting a Western
Australian country eleven. The problems with there batting
were probably first shown here as the Country team
restricted them to a low score, however the Pakistan
bowlers, their strength were able to restrict the country
teams reply. Against WA they piled on the runs in their best
one-day performance of the tour. Losing early wickets
Western Australia never looked like winning inspite good
innings from Zoehrer and Andrews. In a surprising
scheduling they play the West Indies in Perth and then went
to Alice Springs for a game and then returned for more WSC
matches. In the break between WSC groups of matches they
beat Queensland in a four day game, this time lead by the
batsmen. Mushtaq Ahmed helped them bowl out Queensland for
260 taking 4-70 and then all the top order scored heavily
with Saeed making 83, Mujtaba 102 not out, Suhail 65 and
Inzamam 83 in 6 for 368. Queensland batted better in the
second innings making 7-398 with Border and Barsby both
making 116, Border's not out. Set a credible target they
achieved it easily making 4-291 with Mujtaba backing with
125 not out and Anwar 72. This was the only shining light
late in the tour along with the test win over New Zealand as
their tour fell apart with bad loses in the one-day series.
