Date-stamped : 15 Sep94 - 10:31 South African XI v SAB English XI, ODI 2 Played at Kingsmead, Durban, March 17, 1982 The consistency demonstrated by the Springbok batting line in to- talling 231/6 off the allowance of 50 overs was the difference in the team performance which saw Procter`s team through to victory by a comfortable margin. Once again they were given a solid start by Jimmy Cook (35) and Barry Richards (34), who added 65 for the first wicket. There were other valuable partnerships between Peter Kirsten (14) abd Graeme Pollock (41), who added 46 for the third wicket, Mike Procter (30) and Clive Rice (23), who added 48 for the sixth wicket, and the 38 in a mere 16 minutes by Ray Jennings (21 not out) and Garth le Roux for their unbroken seventh wicket. Thereafter, the Springboks virtually coasted to victory with 6.4 overs to spare, for the majority of the English XI`s recognised batsmen disappointed the crowd of almost 15 000. Graham Gooch, Geoff Boycott, Dennis Amiss and Bob Woolmer were removed for an aggregate of 28 runs. So apart from solid contributions by Wayne Larkins (47) and Peter Willey (31). Larkins was out to an incredible right-handed diving catch by Jennings off Stephen Jefferies. This was one of the day`s high points and earned the Bok wicketkeeper 500 rand by way of the fielding prize. Vincent van der Bijl, with 3/19 off seven overs, took the bowling prize and Larkins earned the batting mo- ney. Contributed by Donald (G94P5293@giraffe.ru.ac.za)
