Date-stamped : 15 May94 - 02:30 Northamptonshire v India Northanpton, June 27,28,29 1979 Match Drawn The first day of the Indians' tour was dominated by Kapil Dev, the 20-year old allrounder, who scored the season's fastest cen- tury to date in 74 minutes. He brilliantly hit one 6 and 19 4's, and contributed 102 out of a 143 runs stand with Armanath. The Indians batted consistently with everyone getting runs. Northamp- tonshire replied with centuries by Cook and Williams. Cook hit 10 4's and Williams 17 4's as they put on 165 from 51 overs. Ar- manath was the only Indian bowler to gain success on an unrespon- sive wicket. India again batted consistently, while for Northamp- tonshire Griffiths bowled well. Northamptonshire were left re- quiring 304 to win in under three hours and, despite a brisk opening by Larkins and a scintillating not out 100 in 108 minutes from Allan Lamb (one 6 and 14 4's) they were only halfway to their target at the end. Willey batted throughout the innings for only 29. Contributed by cp (help@cricinfo.com)
