Date-stamped : 18 May94 - 18:23 AUSTRALIA v ENGLAND, First ever One-day International At Melbourne Cricket Ground on 5 January 1971. The first one-day international was a hastily arranged affair, played on the final scheduled day of a rain-aborted Test Match to appease the disappointed public. By coincidence, it not only took place on the very ground where test cricket had begun 94 years earlier, but also resulted in an Australian victory over England. More significantly it attracted 46000 spectators, pro- duced receipts of $33000 and began a revolution in international cricket. Contributed by Richard (r.head@ic.ac.uk)
