Date-stamped : 02 Jul95 - 14:25 Tour match: CEYLON v M.C.C. Played at Colombo, 20-23 February 1970. M.C.C. won by 173 runs with four hours to spare. After Lewis won the toss, Boycott was bowled by Kehelgamuwa, the Ceylonese pace bowler, with the second ball of the match. He had the impressive figures of four for 19 in 13 overs, M.C.C. being dismissed in four hours. At the close of the first day, Ceylon had made 43 for one. Ceylon lost their grip on the game after reaching 90 for one. Four wickets fell in three overs, all to Wilson. Reid, the opening bat, defended stubbornly for two and three-quarter hours and hit seven 4s. Tennekoon was at the wicket for two hours and ten minutes for 29. Wilson`s final figures were six for 35, but Ceylon led the M.C.C. on first innings for the first time ever. On the third day, M.C.C. consolidated their position with a grand century by Jones of Glamorgan. The left-hander batted four and a half hours and hit one 6 and sixteen fours. Wilson, in an ex- hilerating display, hit one 6 and four 4s. Ceylon`s left arm bowler, Daya Sahabandu, performed well in taking five for 86. On the fourth day, Ceylon were shot out for 127 before lunch, Wilson, the orthodox left arm spinner, took fourteen wickets for 71 in the match. Source: Wisden 1971.
