Date-stamped : 10 Jun95 - 18:23 Tour match: CEYLON v M.C.C. Played at Colombo, 16-18 February 1962. M.C.C. finished their four month tour of India, Pakistan and Ceylon with a comfortable victory on a pitch helping fast bowlers throughout. The ball rose nastily from just short of a length and batting was never easy. M.C.C. showed themselves to be far more experienced in these conditions. Lafir, who scored a bright 84 in two hours, and Gunasekera, with powerful hitting, saved Ceylon from disaster in the first in- nings. A third-wicket stand of 129 by Barrington and Parfitt place M.C.C. on top, but after going ahead with six wickets left they collapsed. Ceylon, 74 behind, broke down badly, losing six wickets before clearing the arrears and although Goonasena and Fernando showed defiance M.C.C. needed only 71 to win. The match ended before lunch on the last day. Contributed by J.R.F.Evans (en92jrfe@exeter.ac.uk)
