- Rain caused play to be abandoned before mid-day on the first
day. On the final day, so much rain fell before lunch that
ordinarily the match would have been abandoned. Since Essex
have been saved from all risk of defeat, it was agreed to
have two hours play on a different pitch. Mead strained a
thigh on the second afternoon and took no further part in the
match. Kortright's 131, made out of 166, took 120 minutes and
included 20 fours
