1st Match, Champions Trophy, India v Sri Lanka, Statistical Highlights

  • It was the 1640th ODI in cricket history.

  • It was India's 450th and Sri Lanka's 332nd ODI match.

  • It was the 64th match between these two sides. The record now reads: India 35, Sri Lanka 24, abandoned 5.

  • It was the 161st match in Sharjah- India's 68th and Sri Lanka's 53rd.

  • Umpires Steve Dunne and George Sharp officiated in their 88th and 18th match respectively.

  • Saurav Ganguly played his 150th match. He became the ninth Indian and 44th player overall to do so.

  • Vinod Kambli played his 100th match. He became the 18th Indian and 108th player overall to do so.

  • Tendulkar scored his 26th ODI hundred in his 254th match- his eighth at Sharjah. He has now scored maximum hundreds at this ground alongwith Pakistan's Saeed Anwar.

  • The hundred was Tendulkar's 16th in 'away' matches. He now holds the record of scoring most away hundreds alongwith Pakistan's Saeed Anwar. Interestingly both Anwar and Tendulkar have taken 170 innings to score 16 away hundreds.

  • Tendulkar has now aggregated 1701 runs in 38 matches at Sharjah Cricket Ground- most for India. The previous record was held by Mohammad Azharuddin with 1660 runs. Interestingly Azharuddin needed 62 matches to reach his total. Incidentally Pakistan's Inzamam-ul-Haq with 1810 runs in 44 matches is the leading run-scorer in all matches at Sharjah.

  • Tendulkar has now aggregated 7208 runs in 165 matches in opening position. He thus surpassed Pakistan's Saeed Anwar's tally of 7205 runs (in 190 matches) at this position. Now only Desmond Haynes has scored more runs while opening the batting- 8648 runs in 238 matches.

  • Sanath Jayasuriya on 42 completed his 1000 runs in his 31st match as Sri Lanka's skipper. He became the third player from Sri Lanka to do so after Arjuna Ranatunga (5608 in 193) and Duleep Mendis (1122 in 61) while performing the dual duty.

  • Tendulkar won his 37th Man of the Match award - his ninth at Sharjah. He has now won maximum awards at this ground. Tendulkar was earlier at level with eight awards with Pakistan's Saeed Anwar.
